Thermal water

There are 103 springs of thermal water on Ischia island, originating in 29 underground basins. Spring water temperatures range from 18°C to 90°C and salinity from 2.5 g/L to 30 g/L. As already mentioned, iodine-bromine and sodium chloride waters predominate. Water from some springs is used for drinking cures, for inhalations, aerosols, irrigation, baths and hydropathic procedures.

Ischia thermal water accelerates metabolic processes in the body, stimulates venous circulation, has an anti-inflammatory effect on the joints, anti-edema, promotes rapid healing of wounds and improves skin condition. The thermal water for baths and pools is cooled down to 36-38 °C and it is not recommended to stay in it for more than 20 minutes in one session. Only a doctor during the initial examination can prescribe the best treatment, as the water from different springs helps in many different ways, for example, the "Nitrodi" spring is effective for the treatment of dermatological diseases, the procedures with water "Cava Scura" help with secondary infertility, and the water from the "Buceto" spring relieves symptoms of many chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

In terms of mineral composition, Ischia resort waters are subdivided into oligomineral, medium and high mineralized waters.

• Hypotonic oligomineral waters have low micronutrient content, they are used to treat gout, edema and urolithiasis.

• Springs rich in carbon dioxide are prescribed to patients with reduced acidity.

Therapeutic muds

In Ischia, methods of mud treatment are applied by means of a unique product of chemical, physical and biological processes - thermal mud of volcanic origin, which is obtained from clay. It takes 6 months to produce the thermal mud - all this time the already sufficiently mineralized clay is placed in a special bath with running thermal water. During this time the clay absorbs many new useful microelements and is also enriched with oxygen through special filters.

Special applications, wraps, baths and intra-cavity treatments are performed on the basis of the obtained thermal mud. Thermal mud 3-10 cm thick, heated to a certain temperature, shall be applied to body parts in the area of problem joints or organs for no more than 20 minutes. During the procedure, when in contact with the skin, the mud triggers osmotic processes and promotes the removal of toxins, relaxes hypertensive muscles and improves blood circulation, has anti-inflammatory, healing, analgesic, relaxing and restorative effects on the problem areas of the body, restores mineral balance and vitality. Influence of mud improves lymph flow and dilates vessels, accelerates metabolism and tissue trophicity, more intensively passes oxidative and regenerative processes, activates hormones cortisol, beta-endorphins and pituitary hormones. Chemical effect of mud is manifested by penetration into the body through the skin of micro elements, which have a bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect.

Thermal parks

Poseidon Gardens

Poseidon Gardens or Giardini Poseidon is the largest Ischia Thermal Park in Forio, west of the island. This is where hotels most often send their guests for treatment. There are 22 thermal pools (22-38 °C), 4 Kneipp baths, swimming pool and 4 children's pools, mineral water of different temperatures is supplied, the Wellness Centre is consulted by doctors and offers therapeutic, relaxation and rejuvenation procedures. In the Poseidon Gardens there is a 500 meters long private beach, over 6 hectares of private park, 3 cafe-restaurant. The park operates on weekends from April 15 to October 31 from 09:00 to 19:00, the health center - from 9:30 to 18:00 (in October to 17:30). Children are admitted to thermal pools after reaching the age of 11, a doctor's consultation is required.

Castiglione Park

Between the capital Ischia and Casamicciola there is Castiglione Park with 8 thermal pools (30-40 °C), 2 swimming pools, natural saunas, Turkish bath, wellness spa and private beach. The park is surrounded by a chestnut grove and a pine forest, which can be accessed by a cable car. Children under 12 years of age may not use swimming pools with temperatures above 30 °C. The park operates on weekends from April 12 to October 15 from 09:00 to 19:00.

Negombo Park

In the bay of San Montano, in the north-east of the island, there is the Negombo Park. One of the main competitors of Poseidon Gardens has a spacious clean beach, 13 swimming pools of different types, Turkish bath, sun terraces with sun beds, restaurant and bars. The park is open from April 19 to October 6, without weekends, from 09:00 to 19:00.

Aphrodite-Apollon Park

In the Giardini Aphrodite-Apollon Park, covering an area of 7,000 m2, there are 8 swimming pools, thermal and beauty center, natural grottoes, Fumarole beach, fitness center and beauty salon. The park uses two main thermal springs: "Cava Scura" (clear salt water with a temperature of 76 °C and a high content of carbon dioxide, sodium, magnesium and calcium) and "Cava Grado Fumarola" (clear salt water, sometimes above 90 °C, composition similar). There is also a restaurant and a snack bar. The park is open from 09:00 to 18:00 from April to October.

Tropical Park

A feature of Parco Termale Tropical, as its name suggests, is the abundance of tropical flowers and shrubs in the area. The park's services include 9 swimming pools (26-40 °C), 1 seawater pool, indoor spa with a wide range of therapeutic procedures, natural saunas, Roman grottoes, Cavagrado beach, restaurant, bar and even a terrace for nudists. The park is open from late March to late October from 09:00 to 19:00.

Eden Park

Eden Park (Giardino Eden) is located in the island capital. The distinctive feature - thermal baths of natural origin, located along the coast. The park is not large, there are only 4 swimming pools. You can visit this place from mid May to the end of September. There are pools with ordinary water for those who are not allowed to take therapeutic baths. Pools have signs showing the water temperature.
