Spa Resort Libverda is a tiny resort in the north of the Czech Republic, which is characteristically characterized by the English phrase “spa village”. The area of this spa village is only 13 km2, the population is about 440 inhabitants, and it is located at an altitude of 424 meters above sea level. The resort is surrounded by mixed forests at the foot of the Smrk mountain, the highest among the Czech Jizera mountains. Its height is 1124 meters.

For the first time, the Spa Resort Libverda spa village is mentioned in the records of 1381 year, although it was still called Libenverde. A trail passed through the territory of the modern resort in the 15th century, along which pilgrims traveled to the Marian Church. It was in those years that “God's water” was discovered, which pilgrims refreshed during their campaigns. Toward the end of the 16th century, barrels were filled with local water and sent to the court of the Saxon Elector August I.

The resort loves to notice the fact that the guests of local hospitals at one time became such well-known personalities in the Czech Republic, and sometimes throughout the world, as the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, Princess Anna Fedorovna, writer Franz Kafka, poet Joseph Jungman, composer Karl Maria von Weber, geographer and naturalist Alexander von Humboldt and many others.

Attractions of Libverda

The wealth of tourist attractions in Libverda cannot boast due to its small size. Perhaps the most interesting thing in the resort is the unique restaurant “Obří sud” (Czech. “Giant barrel”), built back in 1931 year in the form of a large beer barrel. This place offers visitors a wonderful panoramic view of the northwestern slopes of the Jizera mountains. Also noteworthy are the pavilions and colonnades of mineral springs, and the ensemble of mansions of the late XVIII - early XIX centuries, made in the Empire style. You will immediately recognize the family estate of Clam-Gallas, crowned with a beautiful family coat of arms.

Fresh mountain air and shady mixed forest trails offer hiking and cycling. More than 60 kilometers of mountain bike trails have been built for fans of extreme sports. Excellent cross-country skiing awaits lovers of cross-country skiing on the Jizera highway, and for fans of skiing in the vicinity of the resort there are several good ski centers with lifts, instructors and equipment rental.
