Treatment achalasia of the cardia (cardiac part, cardiospasm) in Piešťany

Achalasia of the cardiac part (achalasia of the cardia, cardiospasm) is a chronic pathology of the esophagus, manifested by the absence or insufficient reflex relaxation of the cardiac sphincter, because of which food masses cannot fully get from the esophagus into the stomach. Peristalsis is disturbed, problems with swallowing (dysphagia), regurgitation and pain in the epigastric or sternal region appear. The main symptoms of achalasia of the cardia are precisely the difficulty of swallowing food, the regurgitation of a food into the oral cavity from the esophagus, pain behind the sternum, extending to the jaw, neck, back. Without proper treatment, the patient loses weight. Efficiency, social activity decreases, states similar to neurosis and affect are noted. The treatment uses endoscopic expansion of the esophagus (non-surgical balloon dilatation), operative dissection of the cardia, vagotomy, in severe cases, proximal gastrectomy is performed. Normalization of the regimen, fractional rational nutrition, and drug therapy as an additional point for prolonging remission are shown.
