During the reign of Caracalla, the ancient Romans built baths on the site of hot springs, more than two thousand years have passed, and the springs are still flowing and continue to heal people. The only difference is that the healing waters have been well studied, and scientists have been able to prove the effectiveness of their use in rheumatic, degenerative and other diseases of the musculoskeletal system, diseases of the nervous and respiratory systems, gynecological problems, rehabilitation after injuries and surgeries.

Composition and characteristics of Baden-Baden thermal water

Baden-Baden has 12 springs of artesian sodium fluoride-chloride-sodium weakly alkaline thermal water. The water temperature at the outlet varies between 32 °C and 68 °C, depending on the depth of the wells, which in turn varies between 1200 m and 1800 m. The thermal water of Baden-Baden contains a small concentration of radon, but not enough to even be called radon water. The therapeutic water is used to fill swimming pools, in balneological procedures, inhalations and for drinking cures.

The water from the town's springs tastes slightly salty; this "brackishness" becomes more pronounced when the water is taken uncooled. The main active substance in the thermal water of Baden-Baden is sodium, which regulates the water and acid balance in the body. A large amount of chlorine helps to normalise the process of gastric juice formation, and also leads to normal acid-base balance. Fluoride strengthens bone tissue, including teeth. Silicon and its compounds strengthens connective tissues.

Drinking treatment with Baden-Baden waters requires mandatory consultation with a doctor, as excessive use of water is fraught with bowel disorders, increased salt content in the blood and other negative consequences. On average, the recommended dose is 200-300 ml of hot water per day. The course of treatment with thermal baths usually lasts from 2 to 4 weeks, it is allowed to take 2-3 baths daily for 10-15 minutes at a time.

Other procedures in the bathing complex include reflex and underwater massage, Shiatsu massage, peloid therapy based on clay mud from the Schwarzwald region, carbon dioxide baths, oxygen therapy, pearl and thermal baths.

The second recreational and rehabilitation giant of Baden-Baden is the thermal complex "Thermae Caracalla", built directly on the hot springs. The complex has a total area of 900 m² and contains an indoor swimming pool with a water temperature of 32 °C, two outdoor swimming pools with a water temperature of 38 °C, two thermal grottoes, waterfalls, massage showers, numerous baths, saunas and jacuzzis.
