Borjomi is a famous climatic and balneological resort in Georgia, located in the Borjomi gorge, in the valley of the Kura River, 800-900 meters above the sea level. The resort's main therapeutic factor is hydro carbonate-sodium water with natural mineralization of 5.0-7.5 g/l. How is treatment carried out in Borjomi

After checking into the spa hotel, the patient is assigned an appointment with a general practitioner. At the appointment the doctor evaluates the patient's general condition, clarifies the diagnosis, and prescribes an individual course of treatment, which includes drinking cures, diet, a complex of balneological and other therapeutic and recreational procedures. If the doctor needs additional information about the patient's state of health, he can refer for consultation to a gastroenterologist or other physician of narrow specialization, may prescribe laboratory tests (usually a general blood test and a general urinalysis). Guests of spa hotels are advised to bring with them the results of recent laboratory tests and conclusions of the attending physician, made no earlier than six months ago.

Mineral water "Borjomi"

All treatment and rehabilitation programs at the resort are based on the use of local carbonic hydrocarbonate-sodium mineral waters. The water is prescribed primarily for drinking treatment, but it is also used for inhalations and mineral baths. Let's tell more about the water itself.

Water is extracted from boreholes in the Central section and in the newer Likansky and Vashlovani-Kvibissky sections. The composition of water from these springs is largely similar, but there are a number of differences: water mineralisation in the Central area is 6.0-6.5 g/L, in Likansky 5.2-5.5 g/L, in Vashlovani-Kvibissky - 7.0-7.5 g/L; the Central area has a higher content of carbonic acid compared to the other two areas (1.0-1.5 g/L versus 0.5 g/L); thermal water temperature is 38-41 °C. The water is sodium bicarbonate; from 700 thousand to 1 million liters of water per day come out of 9 operating wells in the self-discharge regime of the resort. As a therapeutic drinking water, the local thermal water is poured into aluminum cans, glass and PET bottles under the brand name "Borjomi" for regular consumption outside the resort. Chemical composition of water:

• Sulphates (SO₄) – < 10 mg/L
• Chlorides (Cl_-) – 250-500 mg/L, normalize fluid volume in cells, positively influence gastric juice secretion
• Calcium (Ca₂⁺) – 20-150 mg/L, provides blood clotting, hormone production, and bone strength
• Magnesium (Mg₂⁺) – 20-150 mg/L, normalizes metabolism, good for the nervous system
• Sodium (Na⁺) – 1000-2000 mg/L, recover the water-salt balance
• Potassium (K⁺) – 15-45 mg/L, maintains water and acid-alkaline balance
• Fluorine, silicon, sulfur, aluminum, boron, titanium, and strontium are also included

Mineral water "Borjomi" has antacid properties, it reduces acidity, which allows to achieve significant results in the treatment of gastritis, duodenitis, ulcers and other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract by drinking course. Water has diuretic properties, which is useful for kidney disease. Drinking course normalizes metabolic processes, helps to remove toxins and impurities, purifies the liver. The recommended period of treatment at the resort - 3 weeks, it is not recommended to take water without medical advice. The schedule of drinking course is made by a doctor, but usually it is taking 100-200 ml of water three times a day, before meals.
