Among the diseases of the trigeminal nerve, the most common is the trigeminal neuralgia, the same group includes the trigeminal neuritis, atypical facial pain and the defeat of unspecified etiology. The trigeminal nerve consists of three branches: the ophthalmic, maxillary and mandibular, each of which further branches. Neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve is manifested by a violation of sensitivity and severe pain in the areas of innervation. Neuritis is an inflammatory disease, but despite a different etiology, it has similar symptoms: pain along the nerve column, weakening or loss of reflexes in the affected area, dry mucous membranes of the eyes and nose, paralysis of the masticatory muscles, dysphagia. Treatment consists of relieving pain, the establishment and treatment of the root cause (infection, virus, fungus, herpes). In rare cases, surgery is indicated.
