Cholangitis is an inflammation of the bile ducts, mainly of an infectious nature, occurring in acute or chronic form. Acute cholangitis is manifested by a sudden increase in body temperature to 38–40 °C, chills, severe sweating, severe pain in the right hypochondrium, with irradiation to the neck, right shoulder and scapula. Signs of intoxication appear, patients complain of weakness, loss of appetite, headaches, nausea with vomiting, diarrhea. After some time, jaundice occurs, affecting the skin and sclera, as well as causing persistent itching that interferes with sleep and causes scratching of the skin. In severe cases, consciousness may be impaired, down to a state of shock. Chronic cholangitis has erased symptoms of the acute form, but gradually progresses. It manifests pains in the right hypochondrium, discomfort and a feeling of distention in the epigastric region. Jaundice develops much later and tells about the late stage of the disease. Therapeutic measures for cholangitis are aimed at suppressing inflammation, detoxification and decompression of the bile ducts. The patient needs bed rest, medical fasting, taking hepatoprotectors, antispasmodics, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiparasitic drugs, infusion therapy. In some cases, plasmapheresis and/or surgical procedures are indicated. During the rehabilitation period, physiotherapy proved the effectiveness: ultrahigh frequency therapy, induction therapy, microwave therapy, electrophoresis, electrotherapy, peloidotherapy, water therapy.
