Neurocirculatory dystonia (NCD) is a functional-type symptom complex that occurs on the background of impaired neuroendocrine regulation. First of all, NCD affects the work of the cardiovascular system, and also negatively affects the work of the nervous and respiratory systems. The complex of symptoms includes: aching or stitching pain in the heart, tachycardia, arrhythmia, pulsation of the head and neck vessels, swelling of the face, weakness, fatigue, progressive decrease in working capacity, shortness of breath, feeling of incomplete inhalation or clod in the throat, fear of suffocation and the inability to stay in stuffy room. NCD may be accompanied by vegetative crises, a slight decrease or increase in body temperature. For treatment, it is required to establish and eliminate the cause of neurocirculatory dystonia, which may be an infection, persistent stress, dangerous working conditions, etc. By itself, NCD is not life-threatening, but its manifestations can significantly impair the quality of life, therefore, with the ineffectiveness of non-drug treatment (correction of lifestyle, psychotherapy, physiotherapy), sedatives, antidepressants, tranquilizers are prescribed.
