A group of genetic diseases associated with muscular atrophy and degeneration of the motor neurons of the spinal cord and brainstem. Conditionally spinal atrophies are divided into children and adults with a manifestation in age from 16 to 60 years. The main symptom of SMA is symmetric flaccid peripheral paralysis, accompanied by weakness, atrophy and hypotonia of the muscles of the limbs and trunk.
